Great Bakery

I have posted a comment before, but it was filtered. This is a honest review...please do not filter.. I have tried many of the breads at Theobroma and they are all delicious. I even ordered brioche slider rolls and a whole wheat for a party we were having for my daughter's 30th birthday . Everything was absolutely delicious and fresh. Our still favorite bread is the Sesame Honey Wheat!! Absolutely fantastic with pb & j.

I have tried some of their pastries.cookies, brownies, cupcakes...and they are just ok. What they started out as a Bread bakery is still their strong suit. Don't hesitate to stop in for their delicious breads!!

Food of god!

This is the place visited by all dessert lovers in Mumbai and for good reason even though it is quite expensive. It is a small place but has a definite foodie vibe and everything here is simply out of this world-take anything and it will be great. try out red velvet pastry, chocolate truffle Cake,Baked Cheesecake, burgers, cold coffee, brownies, cupcakes which come in all sorts of flavor. Most of the stuff gets over by early evening as it is so popular. Best place to go with friends and just attack all the desserts on display!

Theo's

Came here for brownies and loved it to the core. This place also offers sandwiches and baked stuff. The interiors gives a posh feel with their wooden finish. The crowd adds its own charisma to the place. Come here for there pastries, cakes and brownies. Prices are decent and service is prompt. Like the name of it, stands out in the crowd.

Desert lovers ahoy!

My go to place for goodies to satiate the sweet tooth when in Colaba, Theo's is a delight and does not disappoint. I love their hot chocolate browinies and fudges. Their coffees are also good and a great way to unwind after a hectic day street shopping in Colaba. A nice place to go to if you have not been there.

A must visit for all the dessert lovers.

The moment you will enter this little cafe and you' will fall in love with the aroma of freshly baked cookies and brownies.
Their brownies are Chocolatey, rich and extremely filling and the best i ever had. Right from Chocolate chip to Walnut yo Oreo to Red Velvet they have different brownies with unique flavours that will make you crave for more.Their Chip & Dip is great with a choice of barbeque / mayo /garlic cream cheese sauce .My personal favorites are their New York Style Baked Cheese Cake, Devil's Chocolate Mouse.Everything tasted brilliant.
The ambiance and sitting arrangement is decent.Good environment, friendly service and most importantly worth your money!

Good Stuff but dont get deceived

i went to Theobroma yesterday. its my fav place coz they have the best red velvette brownies which i totally adore. however this place and its staff are getting a little deceitful now. The red velvette brownie costs a steep Rs. 85/- for a slice. i normally take around 4. the staff tries to stuff four slices into a tiny box which does not really accomodate four pieces well, so what they do is they will put a slice that is almost half of what the original slice is supposed to be, inorder to stuff it into the box so the box can close well. so you end up paying Rs. 85/- for a corner slice that's half of what the slice is supposed to be. i feel very deceived and have been trying to call them since morning to tell them this. however its just impossible to get through to them. adding photos to substantiate my claim. my advice, insist on only three pieces to be put into the brownie box and make them take another one for the fourth piece. alternatively its best to just eat there.

delicious!

Really famous bakery in Mumbai which I find really expensive but cannot argue with the quality of every single thing available here-especially the brownies, cakes, mousses and even the Hot Chocolate here is simply divine, so thick and luscious to have, so filling and dense, I can go back just to have it over and over. Cakes are very expensive so I have only had the brownies and tasted some pastries, soon will love to order a cake from here.

Sweet..!!

Heavenly and mind-blowing are some of the adjectives that its fans would often use when they describe the desserts at Theobroma.
The brownies, chocolates, fudge, various cakes and bakes are just too good. Cupcakes in any imaginable flavour. Theobroma is awesome when you think of anything sweet.
They also take orders for cakes for children birthdays etc.
They have opened quite a few branches. The bandra branch comes with an expanded menu. Dont miss the orange juice cake and brownies

Awesome desserts

But a bit too expensive. We have ordered a few cakes from here for our college events, they all are amazing, the star of the show..are the brownies! Overload brownie are the best! Foccacia bread is something I love a lot too. Breads, pastries and other desserts are all good, still expensive and I crave for the prices to reduce so that we can indulge more.

The undisputed brownie hot spot

Had been here recently after a really really long time. Was an ardent visitor of Theo's during my college days. Sadly can't make it that often anymore. So was more than delighted to drop in. Picked up the walnut and choc brownie, chocolate overload brownie, millionaire brownie and a banana bread for home. The servers were very gracious and helped well with suggestions. Couldn't resist taking a bite off the brownie on my way home and I actually took a small bite of the Walnut one. That should give you an idea about the kind of brownies they dole out. Prices are a little on the higher scale, but the wallet doesn't really hurt when the money is being spent on such worthy delights. The banana bread however, begged for moistness. Was very mildly flavoured and dry. Cakebred in Andheri makes a far better one by all standards.

Food for the gods!

The cakes are good. I ordered two pasteries from their shop and they were nice. The lady is rude in saying that she doesnt do a home delivery for less than 500 Rs. I think they should rethink their policy. The staff didnt know the terms and conditions of delivery, so I had to haggle, and even pay 100 Rs more to get the pasteries delivered!

Theobroma Colaba

Ah, the iconic patisserie in Mumbai! It’s a must-visit for visitors and residents alike. It finds a stellar mention in TripAdvisor too. Such is its fame. Its cakes, brownies, chocolates, cronuts, cookies, macaroons, breads, danish, cupcakes and savories have entered the Hall of Fame in Mumbai’s desserts circuit.

A tiny outlet in Cusrow Baug, Colaba, I have never found the place without its everyday share of regulars. Getting a table is almost like a dream-come-true!! No exaggerations here. Go there anytime, you may have to contend with a takeaway.

I particularly like their fruit pastries. Their entire range of desserts and savories is every bit a MUST. So, when the dessert bug bites you and you are in South Mumbai, you know where to go.

The worst macarons I've ever had!

Was fooled by the colourful macaroons that are shown from outside the shop to come inside and taste it, and I can't regret something more! That was the worst macaroons I've ever had in my life! You bite into it and inside of melting inside your mouth, it breaks into a million piece! It is tasteless as if there's nothing inside of it! Horrible!

So Addictive!

Expect everything to taste good.

This place is known for their heavenly brownies and their infamous chip butty. Whether you opt for the humble Chocolate Chip Brownie, the decadent Millionaire Brownie (Chocolate Chip Brownie with a layer of caramel and dark chocolate) or the Chocolate Overload (described simply as a brownie with 'loads and loads of chocolate') - you're in for a treat.

If you're up for something savory, try the spicy Harissa Chicken Sandwich or the Chicken/Bacon Chip Butty (Chicken/Bacon and Fries sandwiched between buttered buns - served with a fluorescent garlic mayo.

My favourite drink is the Chocolate Brownie Shake - a to-die-for combination of brownies and milk in one chunky blend.

Theobroma Colaba is definitely worth a visit.

Brownie Lovers' Delight

I have been going to Theobrama for more than 10 years now. And there's no place I would recommend more highly for its brownies and wide array of desserts. This place is, bar none, the best place in Bombay for desserts. They have a pretty good menu for breakfast lovers as well. I don't remember the last time I went to Colaba and didn't visit Theobrama. It's sort of a ritual now. Their tag line describes the place the best -

'Food of the Gods'.

Brownies at their best!

After a day of shopping at the causeway, this is the perfect stop, for some really good sandwiches made with their in house breads, some coffee and a millionaire brownie to end a good day!
For vegetarians, the brownies are good, they also have a good selection of mousse cakes for egg less cake eaters!

Started off as a cute little parsi family bakery, this place sure will make you pack up some goodies to take home!

brownie points needed

this place used to have my fav brownies. amazing brownies that were a craving with me. recently I visited this place twice in a week and was both times disapointed. once had the so called caramel cookie brownie. it had no brownie in it was just a chunck of chocolate cookie base and caramel. don't taste good enough. it was not even fresh I guessed cause it was hard as ever. the second time recently I went to pick up a gift hamper and was disappointed. the boys there couldn't help me with anything. I bought a pound cake, chocolate box, brownie box assorted and I asked them to wrap or ribbon it they refused saying not possible. was a big let down. and the man on the counter taking the money was rude and not at all helpful which I mentioned to him. besides they took long to put all of this into a bag bill and let me go. I tried the millionaire brownie which was my fav but that too was hard as stone. I dont know if I should go there again.

MY MOST FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!!!

Where do I start? With the mouth watering, delectable, already running out of great adjectives 'brownies', or the sandwiches/ quiches/ pasties or the out of this world dessert options or the cozy cute ambience. The land of brownies and cheesecake.

This is everyone’s paradise. Almost impossible to choose what to eat here. The brownies the cheesecakes or the pastries. When you've had enough of their most infamous blueberry cheesecake, try the New York style baked one and the white chocolate oreo, almost divine! If you are not much of a dessert lover and still go to Theo’s for some reason, try the chip batti, you cannot go wrong with this one.

the gods must be crazy!

this place doesn't deserve to have a name like theobroma and i have convinced all my friends to boycott it just as we boycotted mcdonalds.
we came here to celebrate a birthday and after being the only customers present and ordering a huge cake we were forcefully and very rudely kicked out. this is after telling the staff that we will just cut and eat the cake and leave. this left a very bitter taste, especially on someone's special day.
then next time we visited we were told that no water is available, bottled or otherwise. we were told to have a drink instead. not considering the fact that some of the drinks are made of the same 'unavailable' water and they dehydrate you even more, if a place flouts the basics of indian hospitatility then i will stop patronizing it. i was thirsty after having a dessert, and the waiter refused to let me speak to anyone to complain after 3 reminders. i dread to think that there is no purified water used in anything that is made there.

Theobroma.....I simply Love you.

Well its the best thing for desserts & i simply like their Baked New York Cheesecake...yummiest cheese cake I ever had. For the Alcholics I would surely recommend vodka green chilly cake. But rest all are awesome too which are yummiest too.

If you like or never tried chocolate loaf den do get it home someday.

The only black spot- service sucks. So make sure you get a takeaway. And please, Theos, a request- do bring in something new!!

Quick Bites!

Quaint little cafe situated on the main road in Colaba, makes Theobroma an ideal place to grab a quick bite and have that perfect hot Cappuccino you have been longing for!!

Service wise- This place has courteous staff. It was a busy Sunday afternoon and the staff tried their best to get me a place.
Food- Their Chicken Butty Sandwich is a must try!! Loaded with fries and mayo and succulent pieces of grilled chicken, this dish is a meal by itself!! Also tried their cookie milkshake, It was thick but a tad too sweet. Macaroons are also okayish. U can give them a skip.

Overall a good place !!

Love It! Really Food For The G!

The first time I was here was after my brother recommended it for the best chocolate chip brownies I could get in Mumbai ! Though that is true to the core, I have eventually explored a lot more and am a die-hard fan of the Chip-Butty / Egg-Butty and Adult Hot Chocolate ! The rates might look high, but keep in mind that though the portions look small they are really heavy, its difficult to finish a whole butty by yourself !! Want to try other things also, will be there soon! Do open a branch in New Bombay though !

Food For thought

This place scores full marks on all aspects i.e food, service, ambience and value for money. There's no other place like it as far as desserts and sweetmeats are concerned. The best part being that they keep updating and reinventing themselves by adding new exotic desserts to their menu often. They score brownie points for their sinful brownies.

Buy Cakes get Dirt Free

I had gone to Theobroma and was buying stuff. It was about noon. There was an AC service technician. He was servicing their airconditioner and there was dust falling out of it. There was cupcakes (lying open) right next to the AC and needless to say some of the dust was falling on the cupcakes. The owner was managing the cash counter and she didn't even consider moving the cupcakes for a bit. We can only keep guessing what takes place behind the scenes in their bakery.

Just the best

When it opened up it was one of a kind, now it has various imitators in the area (Celejor, Leo's Boulangerie) but remains the best. The croissants are lovely and fresh, the brownies chewy and nutty, and of course the cakes and pastries are divine. To name some of my favourites: the chocolate truffle cake, chocolate opium cake (amazing) and the vodka and green chilly mousse. On one occasion I bought the last two pieces of this mousse and had to witness the disappointment on the faces of the people behind me who were hoping for some! Needless to say I did *not* share!! Two more useful tips if you don't know this place: (i) you can buy the pound cake and make wonderful ice-cream desserts with it (slices of cake topped with fruit topped with ice-cream), (ii) you can order cakes for your home or office parties, and among these the fresh fruit cake (only sold on order) is truly amazing. Theo's used to make awesome focaccia too, but recently I don't find it there anymore which is a little disappointing.

Ruined birthday cake!!!!

I placed an order with the Colaba branch with high hopes, they were all dashed.
When I went to pick up the cake, which was for a birthday party, I was told by a rather nonchalant cashier that it had been cut into slices!!!
What was worse is that the store cashier refused to consider it as a problem or even apologize and told me to either take the cake as it was or pick up a new one from elsewhere..., this at 10pm in the night, when getting a replacement cake from elsewhere was very difficult.
Upon seeing our altercation another person came forward and offered to put icing over the cuts to hide them.
But, the worst was yet to come, when we proceeded to pay the bill, the cashier told me the cake was bigger than the one I had ordered for, but he would 'let' me have it for the same price, and that it was 'ok' with him.
This made me so MAD.
I only picked up the cake as it was for an ongoing party and the b'day girl was a dear friend of mine, else I would have stormed out.
I was thoroughly disappointed..
My advice, don't go by reputation, the place is run by completely unprofessional people with callous disregard for their customers.
I could have been assuaged with an apology, which was never forthcoming.

Worst cupcake EVER

The theobroma is bandra has raised the bar too high for the colaba one, which is ironic as the colaba one is supposedly the original one. So I visit this Colaba one recently and am really spoilt for choice. They have brownies and pastries but i am really fascinated by new introductions cupcakes and macaroons.
After much debate, my friends and i call for one cupcake, one lemon macaroon, one baked cherry cheesecake and one banoffee pie. The cupcake was the worst one i have ever had. It was stale and the cream was stinky!!! The baked cheesecake was passable but i have had better. Banoffee pie was rich, but the crust was VERY thick and we had to use two hands to cut into it. The macaroon was very nice with sweet lemon cream and the tiramisu which i packed was also nice. But i m highly let down by the stale cupcake which was really so bad.we cud not put it in our mouth.

God's Own Food!

As their caption says the food and the brownies(All other Desserts) are just out of the world.
But at Colaba they need to improve on their place a bit.
The place is always overcrowded everytime I go.

I just love their brownies and their specialty signature breakfast's and meals.

AWESOME

I so looove the coffee here. It is absolutely amazing. One really good place, and I always try ending up there if I happen to be around. There is one thing though, the place doesn't really have much space for seating, only around 10. I usually have to wait before I can get a place to sit. :/
I like their brownies, and the rolls, but I really like the place for coffee.

Not satisfied- for the first time ever

The last time I went to Theo was in dec.. and I went back on 14th May- sat!! Me n my friend ordered d exact same things for breakfast. Full english & pancakes with eggs. Though it took time to come, the bfast was not hot!!! The steward didnt get Maple syrup with the pancakes- HE had during the last visit. The eng bfast was lukewarm. They didn't have bacon so served ham. I distinctly remember being served orange juice in a small glass during the dec visit. The juice was missing this time. The bfast was so - so.

I really hope Theo's is not losing its touch. AND YOU REALLY HAVE TO ASK THE GUYS FOR THE BILL. they just come, announce the bill amount. You gotto specifically ask them for the bill. I had mentioned this in my previous review - http://mumbai.burrp.com/listing/theobroma/review/the-best-everything-i-have-ever-eaten/i4_yaf#listing

Aphrodisiac !!!

I wasn't aware of what brownies they were best known for. So walked up to the counter and asked the guy on the other side to help me out...
Picked a few rich chocolate (Rs 70) brownies upon his suggestion and proceeded to relish them...
The brownies were totally amazing, gooey and chocolaty. Left us craving for a lot more :D
Definitely going back to try the other items on the menu !!!!!

Lives up to the great reviews!

I finally made it to Theobroma after I had heard so much about it from my boss! I dashed in on my way to the airport to pick up Easter Eggs, Chicken Pasties and a Heavy Chocolate Cake (which i think was an easter special). I loved the Chicken Pasties - they were such a treat that I am sitting now in Bangalore dreaming about the same!

The rest was great as well - much better than some of the better Delhi Bakeries! Will be back to explore much more of their many many treats the next time I am in Mumbai!

Let me down for the first time in all these years!

I wen't to Theo's earlier this week because I was craving one of their all-day brekkies! I'd had one in Bandra late last year and had LOVED it so much I ordered the same omlette with olives, herbs and bacon this time too. My husband, who loves their orange juice cake, ordered a slice for himself while my mom ordered the All English breakfast.

I started getting jittery when the waiter came back to ask me whether I wanted a non-veg omlette or a veg one... I pointed out on his notepad where he had written 'egg'! Then the orange juice cake came which was a slice so thin, we were appalled. We've had that cake several times at Theo's and its always a nice chunky juicy slice! So this one upset us tremendously.

Then after a longish wait, our breakfasts arrived... my omlette was a sloppily done mess and slightly runny (unlike the beautiful uniform one I had at the Bandra outlet last year). The Hash Browns were missing (replaced by fries) and my mom's all english was a complete disaster - the yolk was broken (bad idea with a sunny side up), the baked beans were like rocks and again... the hash browns were missing (one of the main reasons she ordered it to begin with, and no replacement fries). Instead of toast, we were given toasted hot dog buns. When we asked for butter, it came hard as nuts so I had to ask for it to be melted.

We complained about all these things to the manager on duty that day and while he told us that the meal was on the house, thats really not what we were angling for. The fact is that after all these years of patronage, we felt kind of betrayed by this particular evening's mess. We were told that some of the staff were new and hence the issues. Will this stop me from going back to Theo's; probably not... but can I be sure that this won't happen again... I don't know. I have some pictures of the meals that I will post soon.

Service to be improved as well as croissants!

I went there this morning (thursday).

First of all, I want to point out that I rather like Theobrama & I am quite a regular. The brownie & the breads are quite good. But frankly, knowing that their core business is pastry & baking, they could do a far greater job, especially on the croissant that is awfully dry & flat. The quality of the ingredients could be a bit improved. Especially the butter that they use for the croissants. You cannot be a good bakery if you do not get right your croissant, please guys try harder! I would love to enjoy other stuff at Theo's beyond brownie & bread! Thanks in advance!

The Best Everything I have ever eaten

Me n my friend to theobroma a week back. We ordered chicken butty sandwich, hot chocolate, chocolate overloaded brownie & chicken harissa sandwich. Believe me, everythng was awesome. The order took 10 mins to arrive, which is not bad at all. The Chicken Butty was lovely..d mustard in it was divine. Brownie n hot chocolate were mind blowing & a lil over priced. Chicken harissa is okish.

Next morning we went for breakfast :D

We ordered Full english breakfast & pancakes with eggs & coffee. Every bite was worth it.. it was 8am on a sunday mornin and people had just cming in for breakfast. We spend 2 awesm hours in Theo before moving out.

IMPORTANT: Ask for the bill. One of the guys serving told us that our bill was 660, but when i went to pay with the card, the gentleman at the counter charged me 600 only. ASK for the bill.

SERVICE: prompt & friendly. you will not feel ignored.

FLIP SIDE: way too small. only 4 tables & 4-5 side seats. it can get veryy uncomfortable if u r standing.

All n all.. I loved theo & am going back there today :P

Not that great

The breads are good so are the cakes, but overpriced!! and not worth the money you pay for them! but the worst is the breakfast, another example of food that looks good on the menu, but thats the only place it should be i.e. not served, takes you an hour to come, is cold, they don't have bacon but you are not important enough for them to care, or even let you know, your partners food arrives a good 30 min after yours. Wonder where all the money they make - considering their prices goes, not to better their service, but I don't think they care! Should have bought a cake mix instead since it cost the same as my bill!

Come clean

Have been here as well as to their outlet at Bandra. For some reason, both, always manage to look ravaged and plundered. Trays almost always have crumbs [literally] with the remainder contents of the tray all hither thither and the tongs lying askew. Standards of cleanliness are very low and flies abound. Frankly, I am always a bit wary buying stuff from here.

The cakes/pastries/ themselves are equal to or comparable with other upmarket cake shops. Nothing more and nothing less. In a blind test you would not know the difference between Theobromas produce and a Celebrations or Tart cake. That being said, at the risk to health and safety, the Millionaire Chocolate Brownies are quite good.

Hope they can clean up their act, literally.

good food..disappointing service!

We visited the Bandra outlet today. The food was delicious but the extremely poor service made it an awful experience overall. As a family run place, we expected a lot better. The order arrived far too late for a place serving breakfast/brunch. And despite there being so many employees loitering around, it was unbelieveably difficult to get their attention.

Twenty minutes into our presence, a family of five arrived with the patriarch complaining every two minutes about how they are short on time and need to go soon. Soon enough, there were 3 waiters constantly at their beck and call.

Lesson learnt - at Theobroma, to get good service we need to make a fuss about our self-importance. Hopefully, the management will take note and do the needful.

The food of the God's !

Rightly as they have named it,it has been derived from a greek word, which means the food of the God's. The desserts are ambrosial . The recipe of each, which I am sure has been crafted very well. The brownies, chocolates, cakes , pastries are heavenly, enough to give you a sugar rush and make you gain heaps of calories, but if you are ready to forgo the 'calorie-licious' aspect of it,then you should treat yourself to a brownie and enjoy it guilt free. One might find it a tad bit sweet, but if you have a sweet tooth , then nothing like it. I can vouchsafe for it being one of my favorite dessert places in Mumbai, not only their desserts, they have a limited but a wonderful range of small bites. I particularly love the Chicken Quiche. It was a tart shaped dish with minced chicken and cheese. I absolutely relished each bite of it. I just have tried a few,but still loved most of what I have tried and tested :). Three cheers to thou.

PS : Make sure your next outlet is in Hiranandani, you have a huge fan following already.
Cheers :D

Racist!!

I was here today afternoon, and I was really looking forward to visit this place after reading all the reviews. I'm a die-hard chocolate fan, and I planned to visit this place. As soon as I enter, I sit along with my boyfriend. And we are really tired after all the shopping. We decided what to order and my boyfriend went to the counter. He had come to Mumbai from Bangalore to see me. And after all the travelling, he was very tired. He stood at the counter for next 15 mins, without having anyone a clue. Not that it was crowded, there were 7 people to be exact. And the uncle who seemed in charged, gave all the attention to the foreigners. If this is how you treat you own fellow people, then yes, it's really a shame. It was hurt, I stay about 1 hour away from this place, and the only reason I decided to come to Colaba, was because of Theobroma. I was hurt, it's a shame that these guys are still being considered good. Well, yes food is important, but after you treat your customers this way, it's a shame. And the food won't cover up for it. I'm sure that I'm going to get a reply to it, saying that they're sorry and that they're looking forward to my next visit. But spending more than 800 bucks just for travelling, in this heat, it was a waste! Indeed.

great pastries and snacks.

Theobroma has never disappointed me. Each time I go to colaba, I have to go to this place. It has the best cookies, cakes, pastries, chocolates and snacks. I personally love the blueberry cheesecake and the chocolate mousse. Also during summer they have this pastry with real alphonso mango pieces. I just tried it once and it was truly amazing.

Their double chocolate chip cookies is a tad bit expensive (25 for a piece) but it is worth it because of the size and the huge lumps of chocolate which are on it.

Among the snacks, one must try out the chip butty. It is basically french fries and garlic mayo placed within a burger bun. The fries and the mayo are soooo good that you may want to order another piece..

Kainaz, could you please tell me where you get the garlic mayo from? If it is homemade, could you share the recipe with us.

Theobroma: A blissfull smile comes across my face and a hearty sigh is released the moment I think of Theo's.
Everytime I've visited Theo's, their delicacies get better! (And I've been to Theo's almost every sunday night!)
Theo's millionare brownie is the hit amoungst my circle of friends; their sandwiches and a coffee makes the perfect brunch!

Strawberry tart and Truffle brownies (drooool!)

i know this is mainly a chocoholic's paradise, and i regularly gorge on their truffle brownies (a chocolate-walnut brownie with a wonderful layer of chocolate ganache on top), but we recently had a strawberry tart there that was just fabulous!! it was a basic tart/pie crust, topped with a layer of crushed almonds (not quite marzipan), a scrumptious layer of custardy stuff (which was not even remotely eggy! very impressed), and 3-4 strawberries :) yummmmm...

oh and their grilled chocolate sandwich is also great (two slices of generously buttered bread with some excellent chocolate in the middle, grilled)...

Food of the Gods...crafted by the Devil!!

Okay..the title was intentional - the pastries, desserts and especially the chocolate cookies really rocked..and ensured I didn't stick to my diet while I was in Mumbai. Going this weekend to Mumbai after over a year and am already dreading the bout/s of indulgent gluttony that await at this lair!!

One of the toughest things to do here is deciding on what to order first..we pretty much end up starting off with the Blueberry Cheesecake, Hazelnut Mousse Cake, Dutch Truffle, After Nine...did I say 'start off'..??? You get the picture..pretty much everything in the counter's gonna get a smile on your face (and throttle any plans of conversation) and you MUST pick up a box (or 3..) of the chocolate cookies on your way out..they're awesome!

Brownies ? - or fudge ?

I love the brownies here - but honestly - are these brownies? - or just cooked fudge?

Brownies have to be baked in an oven. However, what they seem to have here are huge slabs of the brownie in aluminum trays - similar to those used in Indian mithaai shops. Hence - I wonder whether this is just cooked fudge - similar to what you get in Lonavala?

Any views?

od-ing on chocolate

i make sure that if im anytime and anywhere near that side(being from new bombay and all), i pick up a chocolate overload brownie. im pretty sure the other stuff here is good(i vaguely remember butter chicken role and decent sandwiches), but i just cant get past This. the place is pretty small, not that i need much space to have my brownies on the go. the breads and buns seem in abundance, but I stress again that have these. I've always needed recuperation and sometimes therapy after i od-eed after hogging here. I guess I've made it clear, go, have one on me. only one.

For forty bucks, its a huge bread which is lovely for homemade sandwiches. Serves 2-3 .Heavenly when toasted. Try it toasted with chicken curry or any mughlai gravy...yummm..:-)

Extremely rude - stay away!

I have never come across a proprietor and staff that are so rude in my life. I urge you to stay away from this place. Clearly the "success" of this place has created a sense of arrogance. I can only hope that competition comes and leads to the failure of this business.

Best Birthday Cake !

For years now I have been ordering the Chocolate Truffle cake, Rs. 250 for half kg and Rs. 450 for 1 kg and friends and family are always asking for their number !

They always have a few ready so its the best bet when you need a reliable fresh cake delivered last minute.

Horrible service

Very recently, my girlfriend and I were at Theobroma. She summoned the waiters behind the counter who were huddled up discussing something with the store manager. They didn’t respond. She called again and the manager looked at her and then turned back, paying no attention to her whatsoever. I yelled at the top of my lungs and threw down one of the cake boxes on the counter to get their attention. They finally realised their mistake and attended to us. Why did I have to do that to get their attention? Why do I have to raise my blood pressure, my voice, my temper and ruin my mood when I’m out just to have a good time in this city that’s slowly being depleted of good times?

lip- smacking snacks

That was the first time I had been there after a very tiresome afternoon. The cafe was fully occupied with not even a seat to spare. The cafe is not so spacious, but thats not the thing we look out for when we are really hungry. I had a look at the shelfs and there were breads, biscuits, chocolates and cakes of every kind. I had my tongue out instantly.

I bought a few chocolate- almond cake and banana cake and some cookies. The taste was simply awesome.

This is one place where you would want to be to start off the night life in Mumbai.

theobroma review

if you're a true cheese cake lover then this place is where you must head.....be it the simple blue berry cheese cake or the spicy vodka and green chili cheese cake, Theobroma whips them awesomely.
Another recomendation would be their short bread....it has the perfect caramel interior...just about rite.....and chocolate dipped biscuits they are crip, chocolaty and expensive!.....yes its true this place has no value for money....a Rs 70 pastry will get over in a jiffy..... before you can count 7!.......
a sweet treat here is will always pleasantly surprise you.......be it the lill brownies ....tht will make you go mmmmmmmmmmmmm........or the pastries.......but their savouries come with a disclaimer.....do not opt for anything stuffed with potatoes...you mite jus throw up! (yay! i did)..........
the ambiance is decent.....small however for you to hang around....poilsh off your plates and you need to walk out.....this place is usually full in the post dinner hours........
so ya thts about it......

Chocolate Silk!!

I have never before eaten a chocolate dessert like the one they have here named, "Chocolate Silk".

Its been awhile since I've had the chance to go there, I used to be that side of town a lot more often, I guess I had more time to travel and experience the city, friends studying in townside, so there was a lot of motivation to go there.

I was turned to Theobroma by a few of my most trustworthy palate advisors. It took me a while to find it, not expecting it to be so far down Colaba Causeway, once I found it though, it has become a landmark for me.

The first thing I ever tried here was the "Chocolate Silk", being an ardent chocoholic for many a year now, it surprised me how much I enjoyed it. Its not that its the BEST chocolate dessert you may EVER have. I hate building something up for someone (especially when it comes to food) only to have that gleam of disappointment in their eye when they take that first bite.

So with a pinch of reservation, I would suggest that anyone who happens to be near Colaba, and has a few minutes to kill, to please head over to that tiny little Cafe named Theobroma, and just try a couple of things they have on offer. If you like chocolate, then take my assurance you wont be disappointed with the "Chocolate Silk", I'm not gonna tell you that it'll change your life, nor am I saying that its worth travelling from Virar to try, but this little eatery has the distinction of being one of those places you wished opened up branches nearer to the suburbs...

food of the gods - served to mortals like us!

this is the place you go to if you want some of the best brownies around mumbai, and other desserts toooo! Theobroma is the botanical name of the cocoa plant, and you couln't have named this place anything but this.

They have a rich variety of desserts, each one to die for. This small and yummy little patteserie has coffee and dessert for anyone who chooses to appreciate chocolate and its various forms. The cakes and desserts include fresh-cream pastries, fruit-flavoured cheesecake, melt-in-your-mouth gateaux, souffles and mousses. Some of their sandwiches are yum too, and so are their crossiants. For chocolate junkies, there's the absolutely sinful Millionaire Brownie. A must-visit for people with a sweet tooth.

The best part - everything comes from the family-run bakery across the road, so you know its straight from the oven into your mouth. YUM!

BAD BAD Service

A small little cafe-cum-pattisserie, Theobroma gives one a superb visual treat of its wares but disappoints just as quick. The pastries which look mouth watering are a bit too sweet. It wont tear much of a hole in your pocket but the service, which is slow to the point of frustration, might spoil your eating experience. The croissants and beverages can be given a miss, the brownies and cookies are perhaps the only items i would go back for. The staff and management are as clueless about their menu as one is about a UFO.
If you happen to live within the vicinity, their take away service is an absolute NO-NO as it will only make you grit your teeth and pull your hair out!!
Finally, I would visit Theobroma only if i were desperate to down a coffee and a muffin/cookie to simply pass my time.

So not the place for dieters

So you are on a diet, you have gained a few extra kilos, "Holiday Weight" you say, (the holidays last year) and your so called friends drag you to a place called Theobroma.
The name may be cryptic, but the place is, pretty smack dab in your face, the ninth circle of hell for you.
There is chocolate everywhere you look. The entire display counter is full of gooey chocolate related concoctions, if that weren't enough, they made a seperate side display just for the brownies and cookies.
We ordered the blueberry cheescake, Chocolate and Walnut Brownie, After Eight PM, which was an odd mint based chocolate cake, a tiramisu, a truffle cake, regular chocolate cake, and needless to say, a bypass, from the heart attack we would have after downing all this chocolate.
i heard they serve coffee and sandwiches as well, but who had the time to even see those things on the menu.
A serious chocaholics dream come true.

Simply Irresistible

Whether it be their coffee, tenderloin sandwich, tiered temptation, millionaire brownie or short bread every thing here is simply irresistible. For chocoholics (like me) this outlet is god sent. Dark chocolate can't get better than this.

A bit on the expensive side (but if you want to eat food for the Gods, you better pay like God too...). Wish to God that they open a bigger place soon!!

Food of the Gods ---- Trust Me!

Theobroma ... a boon , i say. For dessert lovers like me, it was like leaving a 3 yr old in a ginger bread house. Try the tiramisu or the blueberry cheesecake..divine is not the word !!! If your'e in the mood for some chocolate then try the chocolate almond pastry or the chocolate brownies. Sample the chicken quiche or the variety of breads they have to offer!

The best part about eating here is that you always get baked products straight from the oven. The coffee deserves a couple of brownie points too.

The ambience being very cosy , its easy to fall into simple chatter amongst the tourists or locals. If you want to buy a fellow foodie a present try an assortment of brownies (fudge, choco chip, walnut, shortcake etc etc ) , ive even tried an assortment of 30 brownies in lieu of a cake!

Go ahead and indulge ;)

Heaven in colaba!

I admit I am a tad jealous. After all, this is exactly the sort of place I always dreamed of running one day (while mine was clearly a pipe dream I am so glad someone started this adorable place!). I completely agree with the other reviews.Talk about having A TON of great dessert under one roof. Wow! The brownies are to die for as is the banoffee. The only negative I saw was when this place got really crowded, the people behind the counter looked visibly stressed trying to serve up the orders. I hope they read this review so I can give them this message - Relax! You run what is likely the best bakery in Mumbai so if people have to wait a bit to be served - trust me it's worth the wait!

Wow! Bakery ho to aisi :)

This is the type of bakery that all should emulate. Comfortable, family run atmosphere, gentle, kind service with a smile, and above all, amazing desserts and pastries. Try the chocolate silk for dark chocolate lovers and carrot cake. Those looking for the savoury instead of the sweet, try their speciality omelettes and sandwiches. Haven't tried them, but they look delicious. Any time in Colaba, it's Theobroma all the way.

Sweetest places in Mumbai

Theobroma had spread like wildfire across Mumbai, and has now even entered Delhi. Truly a great place for pastries. The sheer variety of options, including brownies, pastries, chocolates, freakshakes and flavoured breads is what make this place awesome.
