Too Early For A Throwback? Here's 2017 In 12 Restaurants.

Tanvi Juwale January 04, 2018

We're sure you'd agree that 2017 passed faster than you blink an eye. Well, we're happy it saw some good restaurants and some not-so good ones. We're going to get a little nostalgic about our meal, we cherished in these restaurants.

Razzberry Rhinoceros, Juhu

Razzberry Rhinoceros, Juhu

This iconic band launch pad of the late90s opened it's door to the city after a decade-long sabbatical. We walked in to be greeted by the warm salty breeze, a stunning panoramic view of the sea, and swaying palm trees. Spread over five areas, this place instantly became a favourite, needless to say we frequented this place for their delicious food and Cold Brew Old Fashioned -  a cocktail that was love at first sip.
Bombay Brasserie, Worli

Bombay Brasserie, Worli

We patiently awaited as this restaurant journeyed from Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences to Mumbai. Bangalore and Chennai were their outposts, and when finally maximum city! We love how they bring out the culinary diversity of this country in their menu. Aam Papad Paneer, Bombay Dabba Gosht are some dishes we polish off our plates in no time.
Taftoon, BKC

Taftoon, BKC

We could go on and on about how food in the Indian subcontinent has evolved and Taftoon does it effortlessly with their menu. Done up in a rather nonchalantly modern decor, they bring back food from the Grand Trunk Road. We greedily mopped up some delicious Nali Nihari with Khamiri Roti here.
O Pedro, BKC

Goa for many of us is probably about alcohol, parties and water sports. The Bombay Canteen folks decided to push all the touristy stuff away and bring the essence of G0a to the city. We love the sushegad vibe, the eclectic drinks menu and their Fish Curry with rice. The flavours seep deep inside the delicate fish and the curry is soothingly delicious!
Gateway Taproom, BKC

Gateway Taproom, BKC

We've had Gateway beers in various locations for almost four years now but in August 2017, these folks established their own taproom at BKC. With a clean, minimalistic decor, plentiful sunlight pouring in, and the hand-painted White Zen mural, they charmed the city. They have 14 beers on tap, (our favorites are Monk's Potion and Kaapi Stout) with Consulting Chef Viraf Patel of Black Sheep Hospitality, this one is the perfect recipe for good times.
Turban Tales, Powai

TUrban Tales, Powai

How many times does one come across a bar with a desi vibe? No, we don't mean Gokul or Janta. This easy to miss restaurant sits atop Mini Punjab at Powai on JVLR. This rooftop bar a quirky dhaba like decor and while we sample some delicious Soya Chaamp and washed it down with thier Amarsar To Thailand \ Bollywood numbers and Punajbi music plays in the background.
Hitchki, Powai

Hitchki, Powai

We'd been to Hitchki when their first outpost was in Kalaghoda albeit in a smaller place. They made their journey to Powai and BKC later in 2017. Sprawled across two seating areas, they are serving some delicious Crispy Chicken Khurana and Full Jhol Che with Jaeger Bombs served out of teapot!
Summer Garden, Powai

Who says healthy couldn't be delicious? Located in Hakone Entertainment Zone, Summer Garden claims to be the city's first plastic-free restaurant. Delving into the concept and philosophy of conscious foods, we have to hand it to them for serving some refreshing, crunchy, and filling salads and drinks (they even use clean wooden straws!). Another thing we appreciate about them, they're pet-friendly, in fact, you might even run into Winter -the Summer Garden Dalmatian.
Arth, Khar

Arth, Khar

Mid-2017 Aaliya Hospitality added another chic, upmarket restaurant to their kitty. Arth, Khar was designed by Gauri Khan and the opening night saw the creme de la creme of the city. With velvet chesterfields, metallic accents, honeycomb design, stunning chandeliers and high chairs the luxe decor took you back to the 70s. The food here is overseen by the arad winning Chef Amninder Sandhu and she's managed to cook in a no gas kitchen which an accomplishment in itself. We love the Stuffed Morels which came on a bed of crushed walnuts,  Rhododendron Seekh and Tabarak Pulao.
Toit Brewery - Taproom & Kitchen, Lower Parel

Toit Brewery - Taproom & Kitchen, Lower Parel

Let's admit, we were heartbroken when Blue Frog shut shop and almost two years later, Toit -  one of our favourites breweries from Bengaluru made it's way to the maximum city.  We've perpetually been in love with their Kilnaleck Red and Dark Night, the Irish Red Ale and Stout respectively, but the food here is mouthwatering too!
Kuai Kitchen, Colaba

On a busy Colaba Causeway shopping street, Kuai Kitchen replaced Sufra by Moshe's. Well, this restaurant may be a budget dining place with a limited seating it does serve great food. When we crave affordable yet well-made Sushi, we find ourselves in a cab heading to Kuai Kitchen. We love their Volcanic Prawn Tempura Roll, Turnip Cakes, and our favourite dessert Chocolate Kuai Pie.
La Folie Lab, Lower Parel

Affogato at La Folie Lab, Lower Parel

During the monsoon in 2017, La Folie Lab came to Kamala Mills, Lower Parel with a menu full of comfort food and coffees. We loved their delicious House Cured Salmon Tartines, French Onion & Three Cheese Sandwich, Vietnamese Coffee and our favourite La Folie dessert: Caramel Fleur De Sel.
